Every CS2 case has a pool of rare special items: knives or gloves, shown as the gold slot on the reel. Which knife you can get depends entirely on the case. This list covers all 42 cases in our CS2 case database, grouped by knife type and by finish, so you can pick the case that actually contains the knife you want.
First, the odds
Valve’s published odds give each case a 0.26% chance of a rare special item. That is roughly 1 in 385 cases. The 0.26% covers the whole knife or glove pool of the case. A case with five knife types splits that chance between them, while a case with one knife type puts all of it on that knife.
That makes the single-knife cases the best way to target one knife model:
| Knife | Cases with only this knife |
|---|---|
| Butterfly Knife | Operation Breakout Weapon Case |
| Huntsman Knife | Huntsman Weapon Case |
| Falchion Knife | Falchion Case |
| Shadow Daggers | Shadow Case |
| Bowie Knife | Operation Wildfire Case |
| Classic Knife | CS20 Case |
| Kukri Knife | Kilowatt Case and Gallery Case |

Pick the case by finish
The knife type is only half of it. Each case also decides which finishes can drop, and the finishes come in three families:
- Original finishes (vanilla, Fade, Case Hardened, Crimson Web, Slaughter, Blue Steel, Night or Night Stripe, Stained, Urban Masked and the camos): the older single-knife and multi-knife cases, Revolver, Horizon, Danger Zone, Shattered Web, Fracture, CS20, Kilowatt and Gallery.
- Chroma finishes (Doppler, Marble Fade, Tiger Tooth, Damascus Steel, Rust Coat, Ultraviolet): Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3, Spectrum, Spectrum 2, Prisma, Prisma 2 and Fever.
- Gamma finishes (Gamma Doppler, Lore, Autotronic, Black Laminate, Bright Water, Freehand): Gamma, Gamma 2, Dreams & Nightmares and Operation Riptide.
So for a Karambit Doppler you need a Chroma, Chroma 2 or Chroma 3 Case. For a Karambit Gamma Doppler, a Gamma or Gamma 2 Case. For a Butterfly Doppler, Spectrum or Spectrum 2. For a Butterfly Fade, only Operation Breakout.
Glove cases
Seven cases drop gloves instead of knives, in three generations:
| Cases | Glove types |
|---|---|
| Glove Case, Operation Hydra | Bloodhound, Driver, Hand Wraps, Moto, Specialist, Sport |
| Clutch, Revolution | Hydra, Driver, Hand Wraps, Moto, Specialist, Sport |
| Operation Broken Fang, Snakebite, Recoil | Broken Fang, Driver, Hand Wraps, Moto, Specialist, Sport |
Each generation has its own set of finishes, so a Sport Gloves drop from the Glove Case and one from the Recoil Case are different skins.
Before you open anything
A specific knife in a specific finish is far rarer than 0.26%. That chance is split across every knife type and finish in the pool, and the reel can land on any of them. Each case page in our database lists the full pool and has a free opening simulator with the exact Valve odds, so you can see how many cases a knife really takes before you spend anything. If you open on a case site, check our case opening site rankings first and set a budget. Our responsible gambling page has help if it stops being fun.
