Doppler is the most traded knife finish in CS2, and also the most confusing one. A “Karambit | Doppler” can cost a few thousand dollars or several times that, depending on a detail the Steam Market listing does not even show: the phase. Here is what the phases look like, which cases drop them and what to check before paying for one.
Doppler is not one finish
On the market, Doppler looks like a single skin. In the game files it is several finishes that share a name. Standard Doppler has seven of them, Gamma Doppler has five.
Standard Doppler
| Variant | Look |
|---|---|
| Phase 1 | Dark base with purple and blue streaks |
| Phase 2 | Mostly pink and purple |
| Phase 3 | Darkest: deep blue and black with green tints |
| Phase 4 | Mostly blue with a little purple |
| Ruby | Solid red |
| Sapphire | Solid bright blue |
| Black Pearl | Dark purple-black with an oily shimmer |
Gamma Doppler swaps the purple and blue for green, teal and black. It has Phases 1 to 4 and one gem, the Emerald, a solid green blade.
According to SteamDB, each variant has its own paint index (Ruby 415, Sapphire 416, Black Pearl 417, Phases 1 to 4 at 418 to 421). That means the phase is decided when the knife is created, not by the pattern seed. The seed only moves the pattern around within that phase.
Which cases drop Doppler knives
Our case database has Doppler knives in 12 cases:
| Cases | Knives | Finish |
|---|---|---|
| Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3 | Bayonet, Flip, Gut, Karambit, M9 Bayonet | Doppler |
| Gamma, Gamma 2 | Bayonet, Flip, Gut, Karambit, M9 Bayonet | Gamma Doppler |
| Spectrum, Spectrum 2 | Bowie, Butterfly, Falchion, Huntsman, Shadow Daggers | Doppler |
| Operation Riptide, Dreams & Nightmares | Bowie, Butterfly, Falchion, Huntsman, Shadow Daggers | Gamma Doppler |
| Prisma, Prisma 2 | Navaja, Stiletto, Talon, Ursus | Doppler |
| Fever Case | Nomad, Paracord, Skeleton, Survival | Doppler |
A Doppler knife is part of the case’s gold pool, so it shares the 0.26% knife chance with every other knife in that case. Each case page in our simulator, such as the Chroma Case, lists the full pool. Our knife list covers every other finish too.
How the phase changes the price
The phase moves the price far more than the float. Doppler knives only exist between 0.00 and 0.08, so every one is Factory New or Minimal Wear and the wear gap is small. SteamDB’s Factory New medians from June 2026:
| Knife | Example |
|---|---|
| Karambit | Doppler | Phase 2 about 45% above Phase 3; Sapphire about $4,840; Ruby about $8,760 |
| Butterfly Knife | Doppler | Phase 2 about $4,880, Phase 3 about $2,360; Ruby about $11,210 |
| Karambit | Gamma Doppler | Phase 2 about $2,920, Phases 3 and 4 about $2,000; Emerald about $8,400 |
| Navaja Knife | Doppler | Sapphire about $220, Ruby about $320, Black Pearl about $390 |
Two patterns stand out. Phase 2 is usually the priciest numbered phase and Phase 3 the cheapest. And the gem premium depends on the knife: on a Karambit or Butterfly the gems cost thousands more, on cheaper knives like the Navaja the gap is a few hundred dollars.
Black Pearl is the scarcest of the standard gems. In SteamDB’s June snapshot it had 829 listings, against about 3,400 for Ruby and 4,700 for Sapphire. Those are listings, not drop rates, but they show how thin the supply is.
The only gun with phases
The Glock-18 | Gamma Doppler from the 2021 Train Collection is the only gun with phases, including an Emerald. It only comes as a Souvenir, has no StatTrak version and goes up to 0.50 float, so it also exists in Field-Tested.
How to check the phase before you buy
- Steam Community Market: every phase sits under one name, such as “Karambit | Doppler (Factory New)”. Look at the thumbnail closely, because it is easy to buy the wrong phase.
- Inspect link: paste it into a float checker. The paint index tells you the phase even though the in-game card does not name it.
- Third-party markets: most list each phase separately (“Doppler Phase 2”, “Doppler Ruby”), so you can compare prices per phase.
The short version
If you want a Doppler for the look, Phase 3 is usually the cheapest way in. Pay the Phase 2 premium only if you want the pink. Gems are a collector market of their own: check the paint index on every listing, and never pay gem money based on a market thumbnail alone.
